Musical & All-State Updates Good evening, Grizzly Band Fans!

This past week we had the honor of being a part of our GHS Theatre's production of "CHICAGO", and it has been a wonderful experience. This has been the first time that the band has been a part of the musical, and it was an ambitious production. Usually the pit orchestra plays underneath of the stage, but this show had us ON the stage! The students involved have done a great job with this challenging music, so I wanted to take a moment to recognize the members of our first ever pit orchestra at GHS:

All-State Updates

You may recall that Ali Acosta (freshman trumpet) and Lluvia Castillo (senior percussionist) were recently named to the Texas 5A All-State Band. After earning this honor, we set up a special recording session for Ali and Lluvia to perform their etudes one last time to receive their All-State Chair placements and Ensemble selections. Here are their results:

Lluvia Castillo: 11th Chair in Texas 5A All-State Band; 5A Percussion Ensemble.

Ali Acosta: 4th Chair in Texas 5A All-State Band; 5A Symphonic Band.

One more CONGRATULATIONS to Lluvia and Ali on their All-State placements!

• Thursday AM (7:00-8:00am) - FULL BAND, including percussion begin this week!
• Friday AM (7:00-8:00am) - Low Voices (any instrument not previously listed)

Upcoming Event - "MEGABAND"! Mark your calendars for Satuday, January 21

This is our first ever 'MEGABAND' event for GHS, LMS and DMS on January 21! This will include ALL of the GHS Band and all of our LMS and DMS Eighth Graders!

Here is the schedule for the day:

• 10:30am GHS students arrive for Gym Setup
• ~11:45am DMS & LMS students arrive: meet in GHS Band Hall
• Students will enter GHS through the “West Entrance” (by the band practice field)
• 12:00pm Lunch w/ the Grizzly Band (free pizza!)
• 1:00pm Full Band Rehearsal in Gym
• 3:45pm Gym Opens for spectators
• 4:00pm MEGABAND CONCERT!
• ~4:45pm Gym Clean-Up & Dismissal

This will be mandatory for all GHS Band Students!

"Movement Camps" Begin This Week!

Our first movement camp is on Thursday, January 19th starting at 4:30pm till 7:30pm. This camp is for our incoming eighth grade students, and any individuals interested in leadership for the coming marching season. This will be a great time to start learning about our leadership process and connecting with our incoming freshmen! Students should wear athletic clothes, and bring water and a positive attitude :)

New @ GHS: Flute Choir & Trombone Choir

Flute Choir and Trombone Choir will start on January 23rd and January 24th respectively. It will be in the mornings from 7-8am. Any individuals that are interested in playing are welcome to join. These rehearsals will be on Monday and Tuesdays mornings until our February 24th concert. Both choirs will perform one piece each at the February concert.
