Glenn Band News - Area and All-State!

Big News Celebrations in the Glenn Band!! (Yes, this is the big news!!)

Last Saturday, six of our Grizzly Band students auditioned in the 5A All-Area Auditions. These students placed in the top of our Region Band Auditions and have earned the title of "All-Area Musician". On Saturday they auditioned with the other top chair musicians from our Area. The top students from each instrument earn spots in the 5A All-State Band, and the competition is steep.

In Texas, being selected as a member of the Texas All-State Band is the highest honor a student musician can achieve. Students are selected through a rigorous audition process over multiple auditions in their region and area. Preparing for these auditions takes months - students start preparing in the summer for auditions in December and January through hours upon hours of practice and study.

THIS PAST WEEKEND, TWO STUDENTS FROM THE GLENN BAND WERE NAMED TO THE TEXAS 5A ALL-STATE BAND:

Lluvia Castillo, senior percussionist. Lluvia was Third Place in Percussion at All-Area. She is the first percussionist in GHS history to make the Texas All-State Band!

Ali Acosta, freshman trumpet player. Ali was FIRST PLACE in Trumpets at All-Area!!! Ali is the first brass player in GHS history to make the Texas All-State Band!

Congratulations to Lluvia and Ali on this monumental accomplishment!

We would also like to recognize our four All-Area students for their incredible auditions and final placements at the All-Area Auditions this past weekend.

Jenae Conner, junior trombone player: 3rd Overall at Area

Nahum Garcia, junior bass trombone: 2nd Overall at Area

Ethan Hodge, junior tuba: 4th Overall at Area

Oliver Remmler, freshman bassoon: 3rd Overall at Area

• Tuesday AM (7:00-8:00am) - Trumpets & Horns (this is for the next two weeks only, then we will go back to the normal schedule of Monday & Tuesday after school)
• Wednesday AM (7:00-8:00am) - Flutes, Oboe, Clarinets, Altos
• Thursday AM (7:00-8:00am) - FULL BAND, including percussion -- will NOT begin yet
• Friday AM (7:00-8:00am) - Low Voices (any instrument not previously listed)

Indoor Percussion Community & Family Performance

Glenn Indoor Percussion is in full swing! Please join us at 5pm on Saturday for a family/community performance. The group has been off to an incredible start and we hope you can join us for a sneak preview of what to expect from them in their first competitive season!

"Movement Camps" Begin Next Week!

Our first movement camp is on Thursday, January 19th starting at 4:30pm till 7:30pm. This camp is for our incoming eighth grade students, and any individuals interested in leadership for the coming marching season. This will be a great time to start learning about our leadership process and connecting with our incoming freshmen! Students should wear athletic clothes, and bring water and a positive attitude :)

New @GHS: Flute Choir & Trombone Choir

Flute Choir and Trombone Choir will start on January 23rd and January 24th respectively. It will be in the mornings from 7-8am. Any individuals that are interested in playing are welcome to join. These rehearsals will be on Monday and Tuesdays mornings until our February 24th concert. Both choirs will perform one piece each at the February concert.

Upcoming Event - "MEGABAND"! Mark your calendars for Satuday, January 21

More info will be coming to you very soon..... This is our first ever 'MEGABAND' event for GHS, LMS and DMS on January 21! This will include ALL of the GHS Band and all of our LMS and DMS Eighth Graders! Please mark your calendar for a full day event, and I will get more details out to you once we have everything set and finalized! This will be mandatory for all GHS Band Students!
