ENSEMBLES
MARCHING BAND
The Glenn High School marching band is the largest ensemble in our program. It is comprised of all band students from the concert ensembles as well as the percussion and GEMS Dance Company. Marching band season runs from July to November, performing at football game half-time shows and marching competitions, including UIL and Bands of America (BOA).
THE GLENN GEMS
Grace...Excellence...Maturity...Strength.
The GEMS are the visual element of the Glenn High School marching band. GEMS is a varsity team that performs at football games and marching band contests in the marching show with the band throughout the fall. Members use a variety of props and equipment in the show but also bring the theme and music to life with their technical dance skills and expressive performance. The GEMS also perform at a variety of events throughout the year.
GLENN INDOOR PERCUSSION
Glenn Indoor Percussion is comprised of Glenn's finest percussionists within the Glenn Band program and ALSO includes students whose primary instruments are not percussion. Through the indoor season, Glenn Indoor Percussion will perform and compete within the Texas Color Guard Circuit (TCGC), where they will travel to several local shows, and will complete the competitive season in College Station, Texas at the TCGC State Championship. As the Indoor Drumline program continues to grow, performers of all talents will be considered for a performance position within the program.
WIND ENSEMBLE
The Wind Ensemble features the finest musicians in the Glenn High School Band program and is made up of students from all grade levels. The Wind Ensemble performs advanced music literature and continues the development of refined, professional skills. The Wind Ensemble will perform many concerts throughout the school year and will also participate in the TMEA UIL Concert and Sightreading Contest in April. This select group will also participate in outside musical opportunities when they present themselves. Members of this ensemble are highly encouraged to study privately with our adjunct faculty. Additionally, these students will participate in solo and ensemble “young artist” events and will be required to participate in TMEA region band events.
SYMPHONIC WINDS
Symphonic Winds is the second of three concert bands in the Glenn High School Band program and is made up of students from all grade levels. The Symphonic Winds focuses on refining instrument playing skills and performing quality music literature of a higher difficulty level. The Symphonic WInds will perform many concerts throughout the school year and will also participate in the TMEA UIL Concert and Sightreading Contest in April. Members of this ensemble are highly encouraged to study privately with our adjunct faculty. Additionally, these students will participate in solo and ensemble/“young artist” events and are highly encouraged to participate in TMEA region band events.
CONCERT BAND
Concert Band is the third of three concert bands in the Glenn High School Band program and is made up of students from all grade levels. The Concert Band focuses on developing and refining instrument playing skills and performing quality music literature. The Concert Band will perform many concerts throughout the school year and may also participate in the TMEA UIL Concert and Sightreading Contest in April. Additionally, these students will participate in solo and ensemble/“young artist” events and are encouraged to participate in TMEA region band events.
