Coming Up: Middle School Night & Competition Season
Dear Grizzly Band Fans,
We had a great show last Friday, and I hope you had a chance to enjoy our first performance in full uniform! This week we will be putting the rest of our show drill on the field, so when you see us next time it will be for our full show.
In the newsletter below, I'm going to lay out our next few weeks and then go through the events of each week. We've had a couple more updates to the rehearsal calendar so I want to make sure we're all in the know. All calendar updates have been made on the Google and Booster Hub calendars, and our final stadium dates are locked in.
We hope to see you at our upcoming Middle School night and at our first contest in Fredericksburg. The more help and hands that we have, the more our kids can focus on having their best show!
Musically Yours,
Mr. Fig

This Week: Early WIBC Concert
The Wind Ensemble will be performing an "Early Sneak Preview Concert" of some of our WIBC music this Thursday. This is going to be a different kind of concert than we're used to - I've asked the students to wear comfortable clothing, and we will be coming in straight from a hot outdoor rehearsal.
This concert is meant to serve as a checkpoint for us, and to gauge our individual preparation up to this point. There won't be programs at this concert, and we'll likely perform some of our music more than once. It will be a fun night, so we hope you can join us after Thursday's rehearsal at 7:00pm in the GHS auditorium.
Next Week: Stadium Day - Middle School Night - Hill Country Marching Festival
Details for our stadium rehearsal at Gupton on Monday from 5:00-8:30pm can be found on our calendar.
Wind Ensemble will be having an early morning rehearsal and clinic on Thursday with Mr. Mike Howard, Director of Fine Arts for LISD and former Director of Bands at Vandergrift High School. Rehearsal will begin at 7:00am; students will need to arrive by 6:45am to set up and prepare for rehearsal.
Itineraries for the Week (click on the links below):
End of September: Back to a Normal Week
Our rehearsal calendar has been bumped back to a normal schedule - we were bumped out of our stadium rehearsal due to a JV football game being rescheduled.
Our rehearsal schedule will be the normal setup: Tues 4-7pm, Weds 4-6pm, Thurs 4-7pm. All rehearsals will take place at GHS.
On Saturday, we will head into our second competition at the Vista Ridge Marching Festival. More details will be shared from the contest hosts this week.
October & Band ("Bandtober")
All Texas band students (and families) call October "Bandtober" due to the schedule and challenges faced as we head into the most competitive part of our marching season. Our calendar is even more dense as we push towards the Seattle trip and Honor Band, Region Auditions, Region Marching Contest (Tuesday, 10/11) and Area Marching Contest (Saturday, 10/22).
It's going to be a busy October, but the hard work will be worth it! Keep October's calendar in view - preparation and planning is the biggest key for success as we head through the fall.
March-a-Thon Week One Results
We had an incredible "Boost Blitz" last week, where the band students raised an incredible $24,000 in one hour. Wow!!! As you may know, my deal was that if the kids raised $20,000 in one hour I would let Mr. Gall give me a "close shave" haircut, a-la-Mr. Gall. Well, the kids smashed that goal and I couldn't be more thrilled be nearly bald.
As of tonight, the band students (and all of you) have helped us to raise nearly $33,600! Our fundraiser will continue for the next few weeks, and we will announce our big winners for the fundraiser during our Thursday rehearsal on September 22nd before our first contest. There is still plenty of time to help! Our goal is $60,000 and I am confident that we can easily pass this goal. Thank you again for your tremendous support, Grizzly Band Fans!
