Glenn Band News - Week of 12/11

Announcement for the week of 12/11-12/16

WEKKLY ANNOUNCEMENTS!

Hello Glenn Band Students & Families,

As we head towards the new year and the start of our "spring" semester, there is a lot to talk about! This week is all about EVENING WITH THE ARTS and our Winter Band Concert!

We are SO excited to present this year's Evening with the Arts this Thursday! The doors will open at 5:45 PM for families, with Union performances starting at 6:00 PM. This event is unique to Glenn HS and we would really love to see all of our band families there to support our Grizzly Fine Arts!

Please see below for more information about this week and next week's winter concert, as well as information about upcoming fundraisers.

There is a lot happening as we head into the winter break, and much to celebrate in the Grizzly Band. Thank you to everyone for your support as we head towards the holidays and the new year! We hope to see you at Evening with the Arts and at our Winter Concert!

Musically Yours,

The Glenn Band Staff

"GPRs" (Glenn Personal Records)

Introducing "GPRs", or "Glenn Personal Records". This is a working title, but we're sticking with it for now!

GPRs are a way to track of progress that the Grizzly Band is making every week. We don't get a chance to tell you about the little "PRs" that are being set all the time in our band program, and these little details go a long way. After all, "excellence is in the details"!

GPRs this week:

  • Indoor Percussion began their season with the first Cymbal Line in GHS history!
  • Gems learned how to "toss" their swing flags for the first time in a show; this is a skill that ONLY the Gems are able to perform - nobody else at GHS can do this!
  • The Wind Ensemble rehearsed with the Choir for the first time in GHS history for our upcoming performance at Evening with the Arts!

Help Needed! Section "Gift Baskets" for December Concert

MARK YOUR CALENDARS - EVENINGS WITH THE ARTS - DEC 14th

Get ready for an amazing Evening with the Arts!

Join us at Glenn High School for a night like no other. We're the only school in LISD offering such a fantastic showcase of our arts programs, featuring visual arts, band, choir, dance, and theater.

Several of our talented band student groups will be featured, including several small ensembles and our very own Glenn Wind Ensemble, who will be showcasing a piece from our December concert.

We are also going to present a special collaboration with other fine arts programs (including our Gems, and the GHS choir!) that you won't want to miss!

Best of all, admission is free! Help us share the joy of the arts with everyone. Save the date and spread the word!

MARK YOUR CALENDARS: BAND WINTER CONCERT - DEC 19th

Right after Evening with the Arts, we invite you to join us as we gather "Around the Fireplace" for our 2023 Winter Concert on December 19th at 6:00 PM!

This concert will feature some of our holiday small ensembles and ALL of our Glenn Bands, including our:

  • Symphonic Band
  • Symphonic Winds, and
  • Wind Ensemble

Student Call Time: 5:15 PM

Concert Begins: 6:00 PM

Student Dress: "Winter Attire" w/ formal attire. Dress slacks/pants, closed-toed shoes, etc. are required!

This is the first time that we will be featuring three bands at our winter concert as our young band program continues to grow and excel and we look forward to seeing you there!

Student dress for this concert will be "WINTER ATTIRE". Please remember that on stage we do not wear jeans and/or sneakers/casual shoes. Students may don "ugly sweaters", holiday ties, santa hats, and etc. Start preparing now!

GEMS NEWS

The Gems began their indoor training last week! They are preparing for performances at Evening with the Arts and we cannot wait to show you what they have been working on!

There will be a Gems Parent/Student Meeting held before winter break to share details about our spring semester. The date and time for this meeting will be emailed to all Gems families this week - keep an eye on your emails!

MARK YOUR CALENDARS: Mattress Fundraiser - Feb 17th

Are you in the market for a new mattress for either yourself or a family member? Then we have GREAT NEWS!

We are hosting a one-day mattress sale on February 17th. This is a great opportunity to treat yourself and family members to a new mattress while also supporting your very own Grizzly Band!

If you're in the market this holiday season, wait just a bit longer to take advantage of great prices and to support the Glenn Band! Thank you for your support!

SAVE THE DATE: WGI @ GHS: March 1st-3rd

WGI is a MASSIVE event that we host every spring. This event takes ALL of our band community to make a success! Please save this weekend in your calendars; there is a need for everyone to help in some way (both students and parents).

Last year @ WGI, the Glenn Band utilized

  • More than 130 Parent Volunteers
  • Every band student (more than 120 volunteers shifts covered)

This year's show is EVEN BIGGER than last year, so we need EVERYONE to jump in to help! Don't worry, no experience is required. Mark your calendars now!

GRIZZLIES ON THE BEACH (Band Spring Trip) - April 18-21st

We haven't had a full-band spring trip in quite some time at GHS (since 2019, in fact). Our band students have earned some beach time!

Parents: this trip is a fun getaway for the kids where they will be staying in villas with a group of roommates. There is a lot of free time where the kids will be able to relax at the villas or on the beach! They will also be doing a lot of cooking at their villas as a group; this may sound scary but former students have had a great time on these kinds of trips. This is a favorite trip for other LISD bands and we're excited to finally offer this trip to our Grizzly Band!

Additional details for registering can be found below. Sign up today!

The Grizzly Band is beach-bound in Port Aransas/Corpus Christi!!!

Students, it's time to relax and enjoy the beach in Port Aransas! This is going to be a fun time to unwind and spend time together after our UIL performances. We'll be spending 4 days and 3 nights at the El Constante beachside condos where you'll be staying in resort-style villas with a group of your band buds! Seniors, you will also be getting a special senior golf cart outing!

Details & registration info can be found below - sign up now!
