"GPRs" (Glenn Personal Records)

GPRs are a way to track of progress that the Grizzly Band is making every week. We don't get a chance to tell you about the little "PRs" that are being set all the time in our band program, and these little details go a long way. After all, "excellence is in the details"!

GPRs this week:

Percussionist Logan Phipps to Participate w/ All-State Percussion Ensemble

• Over 70 middle school students joined us for "MegaBand" - the largest incoming class at GHS yet!
• The Gems joined us for MegaBand, making the performance even more special. Thank you, Gems!
• The Gems offered contracts to 17 members for the 2024-2025 school year, with a couple more memberships pending. Congratulations to all of our returning and new Gems!
  

BAND PICTURE DAY - THIS FRIDAY, JANUARY 26th (during class)

All concert bands will be taking pictures in their concert attire during class times on Friday, Jan. 26th!

PLEASE REMIND STUDENTS TO BRING THEIR CONCERT ATTIRE WITH THEM TO SCHOOL!

• Dress shoes & socks/closed-toed shoes
• White dress shirts

Pictures will be taken during class time and then the students will change back into their school clothes, so this will be a quick photo for each student.

SECTIONALS & BEFORE/AFTER SCHOOL REHEARSALS - ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY

The Spring semester is a little bit different (and less busy) than the fall semester.

Each week students will typically have one required morning or afternoon sectional and one morning or afternoon rehearsals.

These sectionals & rehearsals are mandatory for the Wind Ensemble (Varsity) and Symphonic Winds (Non-Varsity) band students.

• Sectionals for Symphonic Winds: will begin this week (see the weekly schedule for details).
• Sectionals for Wind Ensemble: will begin next week (a separate email will be sent to Wind Ensemble families this week.)

Coach's Corner

Hello Gems Community!

This past week we completed our audition process for the 2024-2025 Glenn Gems Cast! We are proud to announce that 17 memberships have been offered (with a few more pending)! Please welcome the 10 returning and 7 new Gems to the Grizzly Band Family! Congratulations Gems!

This coming week, we are starting our morning rehearsal schedule. Our new schedule is Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday at GHS from 6:30-7:45 AM. On Tuesdays and Fridays we will be in the practice gym and on Thursdays we will be in the Union.

This week, we will be welcoming Yailin Reyes Lamoglia as our choreographer during our morning rehearsals! She will be setting the choreography for our jazz routine, “Oxytocin” by Billie Eilish! Please be ready with your character shoes and wear tight black apparel! Additionally, she will be joining our staff as our Dance Technique Private Lesson Instructor. If you are interested in private lessons, contact Ms. Lamoglia at ylrchoreography@gmail.com.

On the subject of private lesson teachers, Ms. Lexi Acosta is our Equipment Technique Instructor. To book appointments, please email her at alexis.breanna05@gmail.com.

On Saturday, we will be welcoming Mirezha Guevara as she choreographs the Gems’ first hip-hop routine to “Venus Fly (feat. Janelle Monáe)” by Grimes. Rehearsal will be from 12:30-2:30 PM at the GHS Dance Gym. Please wear sneakers and long pants and bring knee pads.

We have a lot of work ahead of us!

MARK YOUR CALENDARS: MATTRESS FUNDRAISER - FEB 17th

SAVE THE DATE: WGI @ GHS: March 1st-3rd

WGI is a MASSIVE event that we host every spring. This event takes ALL of our band community to make a success! Please save this weekend in your calendars; there is a need for everyone to help in some way (both students and parents).

Last year @ WGI, the Glenn Band utilized

• More than 130 Parent Volunteers
• Every band student (more than 120 volunteers shifts covered)

This year's show is EVEN BIGGER than last year, so we need EVERYONE to jump in to help! Don't worry, no experience is required. Mark your calendars now!

GRIZZLIES ON THE BEACH (Band Spring Trip) - April 18-21st

We haven't had a full-band spring trip in quite some time at GHS (since 2019, in fact). Our band students have earned some beach time!

Parents: this trip is a fun getaway for the kids where they will be staying in villas with a group of roommates. There is a lot of free time where the kids will be able to relax at the villas or on the beach! They will also be doing a lot of cooking at their villas as a group; this may sound scary but former students have had a great time on these kinds of trips. This is a favorite trip for other LISD bands and we're excited to finally offer this trip to our Grizzly Band!

The Grizzly Band is beach-bound in Port Aransas/Corpus Christi!!!

Students, it's time to relax and enjoy the beach in Port Aransas! This is going to be a fun time to unwind and spend time together after our UIL performances. We'll be spending 4 days and 3 nights at the El Constante beachside condos where you'll be staying in resort-style villas with a group of your band buds! Seniors, you will also be getting a special senior golf cart outing!
