Glenn Band News - Week of 3/25

Announcement for the week of  3/25-28

Hello, Glenn Band Fans!

Wow, last week was really special for our community! Hopefully you were able to be a part of GHS history as our Gems shined bright in their first-ever Gala - what a wonderful evening and show!

In addition to our fantastic Gems Gala, we also must recognize our outstanding Danielson Wind Ensemble, who performed at the National Concert Band Festival in Indianapolis on Friday!

This week our "Pre-UIL Dress Rehearsals" will not require the students to actually do anything differently for class. The only difference for class is that we will rehearse on the stage. On Wednesday, we are excited to present our Pre-UIL Concert at 6:00 PM in the GHS Auditorium. Details for the concert are listed below, we hope to see you there!

Thank you for your continued support of our musicians as they head to the "home stretch" before UIL. Our UIL performances are on April 9th and 10th and more details can be found below. Please continue to encourage your students to practice at home each day to build endurance as we head into Pre-UIL and UIL mode - our sights are set on Wednesday and our first test of the UIL season!

Musically Yours,

The Glenn Band Staff

"GPRs" (Glenn Personal Records)

GPRs are a way to track of progress that the Grizzly Band is making every week. We don't get a chance to tell you about the little "PRs" that are being set all the time in our band program, and these little details go a long way. After all, "excellence is in the details"!

The First-Ever Gems Gala: A Night to Remember

This past weekend the Glenn Gems celebrated months of hard work and dedication in a kaleidoscopic display of technique, variety, and artistry. Congratulations to ALL of our incredible Gems for an incredible performance! Thanks must also be included for the dedicated parents who set up the Union to be a dazzling reception area, and for all of their work behind the scenes to make this a truly memorable moment in GHS history. BRAVO to all involved!

See below for just a few of the pictures taken by Mrs. Clendenen throughout the weekend!

DANIELSON WIND ENSEMBLE PERFORMS AT NATIONAL CONCERT BAND FESTIVAL

This past weekend our DMS Wind Ensemble performed as an Honor Band selected for the Music for All National Concert Band Festival in Indianapolis, Indiana. This performance marked the peak of a long journey - the band prepared for this concert from the beginning of the year! The band was selected based off of a submission from last year's DMS Wind Ensemble, so congratulations to our GHS freshmen band students who were a part of last year's DMS Wind Ensemble - your performance last year played a major role in paving the way to Indy for this year's DMS Wind Ensemble! Congratulations, DMS!

PRE-UIL CONCERT (WED, MARCH 27th)

Please join us this Wednesday for our Pre-UIL Concert Evaluation.

Formal attire (tuxes & dresses) will be worn for this event.

Parents - ensure that your student has everything needed for the concert day (black dress shoes, black socks, white dress shirt, etc.). Students will not be allowed on stage if they are not wearing the proper attire.

Ties will be provided for all tuxedo-wearing students. These ties must be returned at the end of the concert.

UIL Concert & Sight-Reading Evaluation (April 9th & 10th)

Evaluation schedules for this year's UIL have been released. This will be the first time that the Glenn Band will be taking THREE bands to the UIL Concert & Sight-Reading Evaluation!

The full schedule is attached below. All performances will take place at the Don Tew Performing Arts Center (at Leander High School).

If you are able to, please join us at LHS for this event. This will be the capstone of many months of preparation, and we would love to see you there!

5A 6A HS Band Final Schedule

GRIZZLIES ON THE BEACH (Band Spring Trip) - April 18-21st

We haven't had a full-band spring trip in quite some time at GHS (since 2019, in fact). Our band students have earned some beach time!

Parents: this trip is a fun getaway for the kids where they will be staying in villas with a group of roommates. There is a lot of free time where the kids will be able to relax at the villas or on the beach! They will also be doing a lot of cooking at their villas as a group; this may sound scary but former students have had a great time on these kinds of trips. This is a favorite trip for other LISD bands and we're excited to finally offer this trip to our Grizzly Band!

Additional details for registering can be found below. Sign up today!

The Grizzly Band is beach-bound in Port Aransas/Corpus Christi!!!

Students, it's time to relax and enjoy the beach in Port Aransas! This is going to be a fun time to unwind and spend time together after our UIL performances. We'll be spending 4 days and 3 nights at the El Constante beachside condos where you'll be staying in resort-style villas with a group of your band buds! Seniors, you will also be getting a special senior golf cart outing!

Details & registration info can be found below - sign up now!
