Parents  - Volunteers Still Needed

All LISD high school bands are required to provide parent volunteers for a few jobs for our UIL Region Marching Contest on Wednesday.

We still need a few volunteers to help!

The Spirit of Competition

As we move through the marching season we will continue to compete in challenging marching band contests. You may be wondering "why do we go to these shows?", and that is a great question.

We participate in challenging marching contests because:

  • Contests with other great bands challenge our students to put forth the best within themselves,
  • The students are evaluated by the many of the best educators in the country (and we get to share these comments with the students), and
  • We want our students to be motivated to improve by experiencing competitions at the highest level.

This past weekend we were all hopeful that we would make the finals show, but unfortunately we didn't quite meet the mark this year. We also faced a few challenges (a very early prelims showtime and some bigger San Antonio bands that were new this year) that perhaps made things even tougher for us this year. Overall this is an opportunity for all of the students to think about what we can improve as we go into next week, and for us to remember to celebrate that we did have a great performance with a TON of positives! We can and should use all of this Saturday's show as motivation for the rest of the season!

We are proud of the kids, their show on Saturday, and the progress that they make every week. We will continue to use competitions as a source of motivation to find our best effort, and we will continue to push the students to improve every day!

About

This contest is an after-school performance that is very similar to the UIL Concert & Sight-Reading Evaluation that we attend each spring.

The students will perform their show for a panel of judges to receive a rating between "I - Superior" and "V - Poor". If we receive an overall rating of "I - Superior", we will advance to the Area Marching Contest.

October Performance Schedules & Itineraries

This is a very busy time for all band students and families, with multiple performances and competitions. Continue to support our band kids and encourage them to push through these challenges - these busy times are a part of life and your words will mean a lot to them this month!

*Some of these details may be slightly different than the fridge calendar - these itineraries are correct; the fridge calendar will be updated.

Truck-or-Treat w/ the Grizzly Band!

Since we'll be having rehearsal on October 31st this year, we thought it would be fun to offer up a "Truck or Treat" for our Grizzly Band students after rehearsal from 7:00-7:50pm!

Setup will be from 6:00-7:00pm during rehearsal in the student parking lot directly across from the band pad.

All parents are invited to come by and hand out some candy to our favorite trick-or-treaters as they finish up rehearsal - we would love to get a big crowd of Grizzly Band families there to hand out some treats to our hard-working and candy-deserving kiddos.

Spring Trip 2024 Details - Port Aransas/Corpus Christi!

The Grizzly Band is beach-bound in Port Aransas/Corpus Christi!!!

We're excited to announce our optional but highly encouraged Spring Trip to Port Aransas! This is going to be a relaxing and fun time to unwind and spend time together after our UIL performances. We'll be spending 4 days and 3 nights at the El Constante beachside condominiums and enjoying the beach!

Seniors will also be getting a special senior excursion/experience with the band directors!

You won't want to miss this trip - we will be traveling with our travel company "Perform America" - they are an exceptional local company and we are very excited to have them with us again!
