Junior Movie Night

Even though we had to relocate our movie screen a couple of times, we had a great time at the movie night this past Friday! The juniors got to watch "Puss In Boots: The Last Wish" with an invited guest. It was fun and completely freezing!

Special thanks to Mrs. Ortiz for getting the Junior meal organized, and to Mrs. Neely who hired an outdoor movie service out of her OWN POCKET to make sure the kids could have a special experience! Thank you for going above and beyond!!!

PARENT VOLUNTEERS URGENTLY NEEDED

Last year our parents and students did an incredible job hosting the WGI Austin Super-Regional. It takes a lot to impress an international performance organization like WGI, and they asked us to host again right at the end of the contest last year which was a huge compliment to our parent volunteers.

This year, we are still looking to fill 90 parent volunteer spots!

Folks, I hope you have seen and heard the progress that we are making as a band this year. This is a time where I am personally asking all of you to volunteer - we genuinely cannot run this contest without your help! The kids are all required to volunteer, but there are jobs that we can ONLY assign to you, our awesome parents. Please join us!

More details can be found at the signup linked below, as well as in our excellent Grizzly Band Booster Newsletter.

This is our chance to show WGI what our young and growing band community looks like - please get involved!

2023 Glenn Band WGI Volunteer Sign-Up

Formal Attire Needs & Guidelines

As we approach our spring and UIL concert season, please be aware of the following guidelines for formal attire.

All students will be provided with a formal dress or tuxedo (tuxedo will include pants, jacket, and tie. A vest may also be included.) This attire must be worn in full for all concert performances.

Students will be sized for this attire in the next week during class time.

Please note: some students will require minor alterations for their formal attire, typically hemming for proper length. We are asking for parents to hem pants and dresses on their own - students will be allowed to take their attire home for alterations if they need hemming.

Grizzly Band Formal Attire Guidelines:

PURCHASED ITEMS

  • White Dress Shirt
  • Tuxedo-wearing students only: A standard white dress shirt, long sleeved, with a collar, must be worn.
  • Shoes
  • Tuxedo-wearing students: Students will need black dress shoes & socks. Loafer style or laces are acceptable.
  • Formal dress-wearing students: Students will need black dress shoes. Flats are recommended. No stockings/hosiery/leggings should be worn.

HAIR

  • Students should wear hair out of their face and eyes.

JEWELRY

  • Students are allowed to wear small earrings, single necklace, and small rings. Hair ties and scrunchies should not be worn on the wrists.
  • It is concert tradition (and highly encouraged) for girls to wear pearls for concert performances.

SHOES

  • Students should not wear sneakers, combat boots, slippers, or black socks without shoes instead of the appropriate dress shoes.

UNDER THE CONCERT ATTIRE

  • Students wearing tuxedos must wear a plain white t-shirt underneath the dress shirt.
  • Students wearing dresses should be aware of the wider neckline.
  • It is inappropriate to wear long pants under the dress.

Summer Band Rehearsals & Contest Day Notes

As with all Texas high school bands, please plan for your student to be at all of the above events. Look ahead now for SAT and ACT dates, as well as for vacation planning. I'll be heading to my log cabin in Wisconsin in June for a while so that I can be back for summer band! Please begin planning your summer/fall calendars for travel and testing now - we are SO EXCITED for next year's marching season and a big part of our success is having 100% attendance!

Conflicts are sure to come up - if you see these, please email me or Mr. Travis to let us know so that we can try to help with any possible solutions. Thank you!
