Glenn Band Full Year "Fridge Calendar"
By popular demand, the "fridge calendar" is back for the 2023-2024 school year. This calendar lists all band events as of August 14th, 2023. If any events are updated, we will let you know as soon as possible.
*Disclaimer: The Google Calendar is always the most current and up-to-date calendar for the program. Please continue to use the Google Calendar as the primary source for band dates.
**Please take note of our slightly extended rehearsals on September 5th & 6th.
***If you have any questions about calendar dates, events, rehearsals, etc., please contact a director as soon as possible.
Start of Year Reminders
As we begin the school year, here are a few reminders for band families:
Athletic Clothes & Care
- We will often go outside during class times in the marching season - it's part of earning our PE Credit!
- Starting next week, students should have athletic clothes, water, sunscreen, etc - all of the things they need to be safe and successful outside.
Band Policies & Procedures (Student Assignment)
- On Wednesday we will be reviewing the Band Handbook ("Policies & Procedures") and asking students to sign a Google Form to acknowledge that they understand band policies.
- This assignment will be due for all students by Friday, August 18th.
- The Band Handbook & Student Acknowledgement can be found here.
Parent Acknowledgement Form (Parent Completion)
- Parents/guardians are asked to also complete a start-of-year form by Friday, August 18th.
- Band Parent/Guardian Information & Acknowledgement Form
"Friday Night Lights" (Community Show) - this Friday, August 18th
What is "Friday Night Lights"?
"Friday Night Lights" is several things... It's the first public performance of this year's marching band, it's a meet & greet with other band families with food & refreshments, and it's a way the Grizzly Band to perform their "Friday Night Routine" for football games!
What will be performed?
We will perform our Guardian Block routine (without the Guardians for now!), some "stand tunes", and our 2023 Show, "Picking Up the Pieces".
Parents will also have an opportunity to get onto the field with their students if they would like to learn a couple pages of drill!
What is the schedule?
For Band Students:
3:35 PM School ends
4:00-5:00 PM Get ready for rehearsal; prep stadium field (set up tape, props, etc)
5:00-7:00 PM Rehearsal
7:00-7:45 PM Eat in band hall, meet at Band Trailer in "twos" at 7:45 to walk to stadium
7:50 PM Walk to Stadium
8:00 PM Grizzly Band Takes the Field
For Parents & Family Members:
7:00 PM "Friday Night Lights Tailgate" - come by for hot dogs & refreshments!
~7:45 PM Move to seats (the best seats are closest to the 50 yard line)
8:00 PM SHOWTIME! ("Guardian Block", stand tunes, 2023 Show Debut, "parent drill")
~9:00 PM Show ends
Parent Drill: If you've ever wanted to know what "learning the drill" feels like, this is your chance! Wear some athletic clothes to the show - we'll invite parents to the field to learn a couple of sets while your kids play along next to you!
March-a-Thon 2023: BLITZ Event
When is the Blitz?
Monday, August 21st; 3:45-7:00 PM in the GHS Union
What is the March-a-Thon Blitz?
The Blitz is an event where students call family members, local businesses, and more in an effort to receive donations and pledges for the Grizzly Band... And to earn special "rewards" from the directors! Last year, we raised over $24,000 in three hours!
What are the rewards?
Students will earn individual prizes for their efforts... Students will also be put into three teams with a chance to raise money together for some special "director punishments" that will be carried out soon after the Blitz!
Why do we need fundraisers?
March-a-Thon is our BIGGEST fundraiser in the Grizzly Band each year. Fundraisers like this one help us to meet our yearly budget and to support the full band program. The band fees only cover a portion of the full expenses for band, and fundraising is needed to cover the rest! Fundraisers help us to provide the band with quality teachers, show designers, choreography, gear, props, and more. We will plan additional smaller fundraisers through the year if we don't meet the mark for our March-a-Thon, but each year our Grizzly Band Fans have smashed the goal!
March-a-Thon 2023: "Grizzlies on the March"
This year we are doing something a little different for March-a-Thon.... We're calling it....
GRIZZLIES ON THE MARCH!
What is GotM?
A community event where the Grizzly Band will be heading out to local neighborhoods to perform a few short parades as a way to say "thank you!" and to give back to our Grizzly Family!
When is GotM?
Parades will be on Saturday, September 9th
GotM Parade Routes & Times
Neighborhood routes and times will be shared very soon!
